The annual event...resolutions...tick the boxes. In view of the tanking GOP with a very uncertain outlook, my first thought was that as the foreseeable future could be one of hunkering down to just keeping the door open while riding out the storm, an expensive board was not necessary to do the job. A new cheap trio would be up to it, thus preserving precious funds, and releasing our experts to do their good work somewhere else. However on perusing the report it appears that the money grab of the JG era has been reined in. New realities appear to have tempered that sense of entitlement which is the scourge of small cap, non cash flow companies. It is a pity that one has to vote on the remuneration report in its entirety, and not on a per person basis. The proposed remuneration in the circumstances is tolerable and shows welcome restraint except in one instance which stands out like a sore thumb.- the salary of our secretary. She is the highest paid of the lot.
By way of comparison - federal parliamentary salaries - Prime Minister: $507,338, Bill Shorten: $360,990, Joe Hockey: $306,990. And now Cecilia Tyndall: $192,231. She may be the nicest person on the planet who does her job unquestionably well, but really in the current difficult circumstances are we getting maximum value for our money, or is there an effective cheaper option? Unless she, or someone for her, can step up to the plate and justify why we should stick with the status quo and not seek a cheaper option then, because the remuneration resolution is limited to a single one line package, I will be voting the whole lot down just because of her. Being involved with several companies it is apparent to me and presumably others that her salary package is boom time stuff. The new norm appears to be about half that, or cheaper still outsourcing. I would prefer to avoid resorting to the last option because it is mechanical and impersonal. A good secretary is an integral part of a well run company who is an organizer and does far more good than just prepare papers, which the latter is only what you get with outsourcing. No doubt she has fulfilled her role very well. However the boom is gone, belt tightening is now with us, and we all have to get real including secretaries.
