For Now, at Least, the Battery World isn't Making Enough Batteries. Source: Bloomberg 2/10/2018.
In brief: The skyrocketing demand for batteries used in EVs and home storage is increasing so fast that existing gigafactories can't keep up. Its a phenomenon that is spurring the rapid development of new battery factories in China, Korea, the US and other countries. Clearly, battery manufacture is the new Eldorado; the mother load where supply can't yet meet demand, which is maintaining the price of batteries. But given the rapid expansion of new factories the bottleneck will be short lived and the price of batteries will come down, just as the price of lithium will rise off the back of said demand.
Footnote: Readers might recall that HC contributor SF@HC alluded to this exact outcome some months ago. So he should be commended for his correct prediction.
