Worldwide, there are some 100 different electric plane programs in development backed by some of the big airlines - plus NASA. And while some are targeted towards light civilian craft, many (see above article) are targeted towards short haul commercial air transports, both of which are the majority of flights. And while current developments are aimed at 100 to 150 miles, aircraft analysts are predicting that by 2025 - 1,000 miles will be easy based on the evolution of current battery technology. So extrapolate that to the hundreds of thousands of expensive to run ICE commuter planes currently flying the short haul routes worldwide, and replace them with cheap to run electric/lithium powered CLEAN running aircraft. That is the future - and by extension, even more lithium will be required .
