I wonder how much the consumables cost. It is good that it's safe for kids but I question if kids will use it and will they be available for $10-20 each in the very near future.
I think the pen control you may need doing 3d might be more than that needed for writing with a normal pen. Then again, it may aid the development of pen control and end up helping with handwriting. Do kids still write things?
I'm sorry but this technology misses out on offering the vast opportunities that 3d printing can offer the education sector.
With the news going around that (jason simpson) the former director that was pushed out of 3dg may be about to release some (5) open source printer designs. I think that should be some cause for concern.
