Native Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) now firmly in the sights of carbon sequestration packages being rolled out. No point planting trees for carbon credits unless you can also harvest something valuable during the life of the crop - oilseed, nuts, seeds etc.

Why wouldn't you sign your sandalwood orchard up? Brings forward some kind of cash flow albeit on the meager side, nevertheless cash and come the end of the sandalwood cycle (timber wise - around 25 years dryland) you can harvest your trees ($5000-7000/t) and pay the carbon credit provider with his/her money back interest free.

I think it is a load of balony but the government seems intent on getting this BS system over the line, so if they want to help me out in bringing cashflow forward at the expense of taxpayers so be it ... just another tax in the making this carbon crap!
