I agree. Though from a different perspective. I count a listed DGR asset as liquid if it is substantial in size. I believe that DGR could easily offload SOLG (at a premium) by Nick calling speed dial press "1 of BHP" or "2 for Newcrest". To a lesser extent, he could do the same with IRR, though it may send a message that would disrupt their momentum.
History tells us that the confidence *ahem* arrogance of management means DGR are more likely to raise (or borrow at credit card rates) rather than sell the farm. They (we) have been punished for this before, and it pays to understand that a commodity cycle can't be controlled by anyone no matter how good a geologist they are.
A long time ago I swore to I follow Nick's lead. Don't buy any of the IPO's. If DGR sells, they sell for a reason. Keep your pockets full, be ready with $$ to seize the opportunity. (This seems to have passed for us retailers, but thankfully so).
Say what you want, but the guy has swagger. Converting those options early, below market - pretty cool. He won't be bullied by BHP, SOLG is his Opus.
What does frustrate me is never fail attitude he takes to the subs. How many lives has Navahoe Gold/Gas/DHR had?
At the time NVG/DHR picked up those shale assets (2012?) why didn't they go to AJQ? At the time I didn't mind, DGR held 29% and 25% of each entity respectively. Correct me if I'm wrong but we now have a much smaller % of DHR these days, so has this been in DGR's best interest? With the virtual reverse T/O of LKO (by vending those tenements in) it seems pretty clear to me that the end game here is for AJQ (once up and running and flush with our SOLG T/O $$$) will takeout LKO netting DHR a tidy sum and the ability to 'roll on'.
This would talk to the negative sentiment re multiple directorships, etc, but what annoys me is that by faffing around with keeping the weak ones alive, we potentially miss the opportunity to protect hostile T/O's of the good ones (as in the case of MET/OBS). Sorry still bitter, loved them. Anyone know what's happening in BK, did they end up mining?
