    The Bases energy need and water processing needs could be met 100% by renewable energy (with battery and diesel (multi fuel generator) backup) and it's not a massive amount at a mere 13.3MW presently.

    If I was in DOD planning I would like to see GIMP get some wind turbines added to the Microgrid. I would also increase the installed capacity of the solar and then utilise CETO 6 to round out the capacity to 100%. HMAS Stirling only need to produce 13.3MW currently and this will grow in future. I suspect by 2030 they would be using upwards of 20MW of energy. That does not including things like electromagnetic defence systems (where it could be far higher) to power the weapon systems.

    If the GIMP ultimately comprised of
    8MW of solar (in multiple locations for redundancy), 8MW of Wind and 10.5MW of Ceto with a large battery. The Bases energy needs and water processing needs could be met 100%. I have over "designed" as I assume the 1.5MW(max) Cetos will probably only run at 1-1.1MW for most of the time and I have allowed for low wind and cloudy days. Also a big unknown is battery run time required is it just overnight or do you allow if the SWIS power grid to get knocked out. I guess if the base is isolated to this extent Perth would be lost. Planners would not account for this scenario. They would only install capacity for the lowest/moderate risk scenario and that could just be the 15%.

    Just with regard to defence of facilities - how defensible is a CETO unit kilometres offshore underwater - It wouldn't take much for sappers to knock out the units or the cable to shore link. Obviously PV and wind towers on the island can be defended more readily from ground attack.
