I'm nuetral on the silence issue. Silence can also be a fertile bed for fear, which produces misjudgment and overselling. However, I am apprehensive about COF's level of debt relative to this rough patch through which they are going. It's a capital raising that troubles me.
As for the pain, I don't really understand this. Pain for me is when the underlying value of the business is destroyed. There might have been a mismatch between COF's scaling up for global growth and the global downturn but I think a lot of this was reflected in the 90c-$1 share price. I still think that COF has the bones of a good business and (with the caveat of a poorly managed fund raising) I'm not at all convinced the stock ticker has got this right.
