I am just digging for any plans that council may have to allow trucks to mostly bypass Herberton and link Chillagoe to Mount Garnet and then extend the highway 1 at Mt Garnet through road 62 & 63 down to Charters Towers. I know the residents at Herberton are peeved at the number of trucks running through town. An inland highway from Chillagoe to Charters would take a lot of pressure off the traffic through Herberton and onto Cairns etc. Would make the ports at Townsville a lot more accessible too and boost develop through the whole area, whilst making mine development increasingly cost effective and attractive.
Anyway, just a theory. At some point in the future the area will be mined out so putting in better road infrastructure allows miners to dig further inland and utilize existing treatment plants.
