NEARLY 400sq km of gas land in the Surat Basin has been opened up by the Queensland Government to exclusively supply the domestic market.
It comes just a day after Natural Resources and Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham announced that Queensland company Senex had won the pilot tender to explore a block in the Surat.
The second tender area, a 318sq km parcel, is situated approximately 17km north of the town of Surat.
It is described as having "conventional field potential on the margin of the Roma shelf".
