Hi Quix,
If Quickflix offer movies via download its not readily found on their website, and without the widespread availability of highspeed broadband I can understand why its on the back burner.
I'm a little surprised you'd say "Ummm Why?" I would have thought hi speed broadband a powerful driver.
My reasoning; to download a movie that goes for an hour and a half currently takes 7 hours using adsl@256 kbps, 3 hours @512 and about 70 minutes for the 1500kbps. ADSL2 & Cable will be half an hour or less. (roughly of course)
I'm a potential customer, but without access to higher speeds, I am not prepared to wait for the download, just as I am not prepared to wait for the post. Once speed improves I will happily get my movies on line for $6. So perhaps I represent an untapped market???
Destra has more to benefit then just quicker music downloads, destramovie.com (pilot VOD)needs hi speed BB to become viable. Checking out the short films available from "nice shorts" would become an enjoyable experience, rather than the drawn out process I experience at present. In fact all DES web communities would benefit as they are full of video clips. The more enjoyable these site become the more they would be frequented. (Try watching a live concert on 512 kbps).
And of course dynamic hi impact(even entertaining) ads can be used without impacting the enjoyment of the viewer.(enter Brand New Media).
I think Telstra's decision is excellent news.
Cheers
Oscar
