I think you missed the point of what rambus does. they are working on both still. they license out their IP to other parties and provide assistance to help the customer produce their product.

This is exactly what 4DS will likely do if there is no takeover. 4DS say their memory is tunable to meet different customer requirements. so in the future 4DS may be licensing their IP out to various companies doing embedded or SCM.

Another note - as mentioned in one of the broker reports who ever picks up 4DS IP will still be years away from a product even with a 1MB test chip. So just because other companies don't have products out yet, doesnt mean they have failed or given up, they could still be in development.
