WD acquired 90% of HGST in 2012. It was 7 years ago and it was not WD who provided the benefit.

The extract above  does not indicate that WD have made any investment in 4DS nor does it provide any evidence of their positive attitude towards 4DS or the product  through tangible or intangible contributions.

I am not doubting WD hope the product is a success but you have confused the intangible benefit allegedly derived from HGST with any derived from WD.

Can you quantify how much, if any,  WD have contributed in real or tangible benefit?

I very much doubt that when WD acquired 90% of HGST in 2012, that intangible development benefit(s)  derived by 4DS
was part of the discussion. Furthermore, I doubt it was even on the HGST balance sheet.
