The staff and directors continue to do a great job keeping the old ship afloat.

This gives those who hold shares for mere financial reasons a chance to get some of their money out. Those shareholders who aren't concerned about mere money can stay on till the end.

Its like watching the Titanic as it slowly and inevitably sinks.
