I think it can be safely assumed that some sad people will desperately look for any reason to attack. Unauthorised talking in class is not to be tolerated, and heaven forbid any hint of contradiction.
My experience with chatting direct with the tax department mirrors yours, but it seems other people struggle with it. I would advise people to try it, just don't go into it with a chip on your shoulder, or with a whine in your voice.In any situation, that tends to degrade the experience and the level of help.
