"Stamp Duty an extra $75,900"
An after tax return of about $17,000 p.a. would easily justify an investment of $75,900 but trading up your existing house is not the only way and not the most important way this is going to change what people do in future. The Age pension asset test threshold will become MUCH more important in future and people who are accumulating investment assets will have another strong motivation to stop going over the threshold and put their money somewhere else. People who are in the home property market anyway will have their spending choice motivated by how much cash they have spare.
