A few weeks have now passed since the last update about the mineral sands trial that had been foreshadowed in announcements for many months prior. With the trail now underway I'm curious whether we will get an update about another trail given that they are previously sounded out months before any movement on it?
IMO this company for the time being is fairly priced given that its not making a profit nor has any details been released to inform the market otherwise. Management keep referring to "expected future sales" however we are yet to see any real increase in profitability.
This makes me question the ability of Management to actually succeed on these promises. While we have made great progress while Lewis and co have come on board there is a risk of stalling if sales do not follow in the short term (and by short term i mean the within 6 months, not managements version of near term which based on previous announcements means anytime this century.)
Which brings me to another point, succession planning should now be taking place. Given Lewis' strong delivery so far and willingness to personally support the company you would think he would have to be a prime candidate for taking over in the next 6 months to year assuming continuing delivery. Current MD has been in the role for a long time and overseen a reduction in shareholder value in recent times. Looking at the current buy/sell spread and previous announcements and the traction this company should be receiving the market seems to share the view of the points I have described above.
It is important to get contracts and sales locked in and make the company profitable before the next market crash which could sadly send this company to the scrap heap. There will be a lack of funding available and willingness of companies to trail things as they are cost cutting. It is also important to allow the share to run in a bull market even if it is at the tail to allow long suffering share holders to realise some gains instead of possibly being forced to sell at depressed rates sending the stock even lower.
SDV currently hold some great technology and I am extremely bullish on its future if the correct management is in place and strategies taken. However it still bears the scars of its days as INL and it will have to prove it self far more than another company for the market to take it seriously.
Hopefully Management is up to the task and will address the points mentioned.
