"PNG Power Deal – Energy World to meet POM electricity needs

The government today explained the engagement of Energy World to meet our electricity needs.

Public Enterprise Minister Ben Micah said PNG Power doesn’t have the funds to outlay its capital development to provide additional power requirements.

The government is serious on improving the performance of state enterprises. This has brought about reforms intended to help achieve that goal.

And PNG Power is the first to engage an independent electricity supplier for residents in the capital city.

It’s anticipated that this independent power supplier will take-over the Moitaka Power Plant and increase the current capacity a vital area where PNG Power lacks.

All these is part of Minister Micah’s directives made early this year where PNG Power had been directed to tender to private companies, the provision of electricity in main centres.

He says an announcement for Lae and other the centres will be made soon following due processes and procedures are followed and their independent power suppliers are awarded.

Meanwhile, Minister Micah left for Indonesia yesterday leading a forward team to prepare for the Prime Minister’s visit to Jakarta next month.

A large trade delegation is expected to be part of the PM’s visit."
