    Not sure if it's relevant. May have something to do with the yo-yo behaviour lately?

    Pom power deal signed
    By ANCILLA WRAKUALE

    PNG Power and Asian Development Bank signed a project agreement yesterday to boost power supply in the nation’s capital. The project is jointly funded by ADB and the PNG Government to the tune of $US83 million. PNG Government is responsible for 19.7 per cent of the cost, which is $US 16. 3million. PPL acting Chief Executive Officer Mr John Tangit thanked ADB for partnering with the Government of PNG to enable PNG Power to achieve this mammoth task required by the Government’s Medium Term Development Plan, to supply electricity to 70 per cent of PNG’s population by 2030. Tangit said PNG Power will implement the project which has six different sub projects. These include:
    * CONSTRUCTION of a new substation at KilaKila;
    * SUBSTATION capacitor and statcom augmentation;
    * UPGRAE of 11kv to open loop mesh;
    * LOSS reduction study;
    * ROUNA 1 hydro power station upgrade and refurbishment upgrading to 6MW capacity; and
    * SIRINUMU Toe of the dam generating facility upgrade. “Under this project and as part of PNG’s contribution, about 3000 additional rural households near and around Port Moresby will be connected to the Port Moresby system. This project will defi nately improve the lives of these people who will have access to electricity and be able to enter into little income generating businesses for themselves”, Tangit said. ADB PNG Country Director, Mr Marcelo Minc said they were pleased to work together with PPL. He said ADB has two projects with PPL, including the POM grid upgrade and town electricity improvement program. “We are pleased to work together, increase efficiency, and have
    cleaner power generation and more access to electricity to the population of the country”. Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Independent Public Business Corporation (IPBC) Mr Wasantha Kumarasiri said one of the immediate tasks IPBC was looking at was to improve reliability of power supply in Port Moresby. He said the number of customer complaints and the reliability of power supply were not to the level expected. “If we provide electricity to Port Moresby and the rest of PNG, industries will grow,” Kumarasiri said. He also challenged PPL to supply the power, make it reliable and most importantly make it affordable. He told the PPL team that IPBC is ready to help guide, mentor and support PPL achieve those outcomes in a faster way.
