Yes, Shell does have until 20 April to lodge a renewal application OR reassign the permit to Octanex.

In the current circumstances and state of knowledge, Shell would not renew the permit with a guaranteed well commitment. Equally in the current circumstances and state of knowledge, Octanex would not want to take the permit back and have to seek a renewal with a well commitment.

Therefore, it has been agreed that Shell will seek to renew the permit with a work programme that has the well in the non-guaranteed term (i.e. Years 4 and 5).

We see this as the best outcome in the circumstances as, if the permit is renewed by the Authorities, it maintains the status quo of Shell exploring the permit and Octanex retaining its residual interests.
