How does it defeat the purpose? Most people can only charge their car at night. Storing solar in a home battery and then transferring that to the car is not very efficient or cost effective. Coal baseload will be in Australia for many more years. Cars will be charged with cheap offpeak coal/wind power. I would charge my Tesla with the cheapest power I can get coal or otherwise, I would buy the car for the aesthetics not the environment.
This is totally irrelevant to EPW though.
