Is the following statement correct
We'll have to see what the ALP do with regard to all this – the policy doesn't appear fully fleshed out at the moment. Of course, it's also not clear whether they'll get in.
Companies can decide whether to attach franking credits to dividends, so they certainly could pay them unfranked and store up the franking credits for another day, but of course that would be very harsh on the people still paying tax and able to offset their franking credits against the tax they pay - just to hold onto franking credits to use at some unspecified date in the future. Could the company's use this as a political tool by paying higher unfranked dividend for a few years, similiar to their campaign against the mining tax against the Labor.
