    The facts of my previous post remain. You appear in disallusionment by accounting policy. The fact is I could do exactly the same with amortised cost. It really has nothing to do with this, any aggressive accounting has everything to do with future cash flow estimations under both approaches (if you don't realise both amortised cost and fair value when dealing with the treatment for debts acquired at deep discount both involve the same crystal ball gazing regarding future cash flows, I suggest you don't have much validity commenting unless you can articulate much more than you have). I don't hold stock these days, made my money,moved on. However, please don't rant on about their accounting policy like it has anything to do with it. As I mentioned it's just as easy to play the game you suggest with amortised cost. Once again why I refer those interested to analyse cash flows (incuding the replacement of debts/inventory to collect) and look through conventional EPS and certain other earnings metrics.

    PNC actually has a lot going as far as transparency goes as they disclose more in my opinion than their competitors.
