This is getting ridiculous. No one is going to mandate that every Australian has to have an electric vehicle. It is simply not practical or likely.

Telling people want to think ? You don't think that's just a little extreme ?

However, the example you provide of Cairns and Townsville is also ridiculous.

Population of Cairns and Townsville. About 163k and 134k respectively according to Wiki. And let's assume that no one in those two cities could use an ev.

Population of Sydney and Melbourne: 5.1 and 4.85 million. Nationally , 73% of people commute to work by car.

    https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/sydneysiders-the-nations-biggest-users-of-public-transport-for-work-commute-20171023-gz632p.html

10 million in 2 big cities vs 300k in Cairns and Townsville. That's 3% !

So, for millions of Australians that commute every day, evs would do the job perfectly. As opposed to the tiny percentage of people that want to drive from Townsville to Cairns for a haircut once a month.

I'm not saying that evs are the solution for heavy trucks, caravanners or even people in rural areas of which there are plenty. What I am saying is that the evs that are available now in their very primitive form are totally practical for millions of Australians today.
