More like Hydrogen, or a futher shift to ethanol. or Zinc Bromine batteries, or Carbon graphine batteries, that go further and charge faster.
Electricity power is held back by battery weight and storage limits.
IMO the main reason why we are driving 2 ton SUVs, is because in future they will offset weight with batteries to still maintain the same weight and power and handling as what has been already developed.
Meaning they have made a 2 ton car handle well, stop and corner well.
So if they offset some heavy metal with Carbon fibre, and put a 500kg battery into a 1500kg SUV.
Then all the Handling dynamics of a 2 ton SUV will be the same.
IMO if batteries werent planned, then we wouldnt have cars as heavy right now.
The weight is there, to make easy future reductions in body weight to offset battery weight.
