The government hides the subsidies to the fossil fuel industry in massive tax breaks and other special treatment to give the impression that it's commercially viable while implying that renewables are dependent on handouts. They are terrified of the truth because their very existence is based on big mining which is why they are prepared to do almost anything to support that sector in their final death throws.
The joke is those same companies are rapidly switching over to renewables because they know that's where the market is going. Be prepared to see this government make a rapid transition in support of renewables once those companies are set and ready to drop fossil fuel with some terminal golden handouts to grease their exit.
