While trying to predict the changeover isn't easy, there are plenty of analysts working on that issue. They have the benefit of market data that probably puts them in a more informed position than most. As a renewable tech follower I reckon am better informed than the average person so while I'm not prepared to put a specific date on it, I have predicted that my next 4wd ute will be an ev in about 5 years time.
Anyway, here's a video about a guy named Tony Seba. He has a consultancy that is studying this very subject. The video goes for an hour but I think he gets to the bit about cars quite early. He rolls historical data into his presentation . It is quite thought provoking if you have the time to watch it.
