"first there needs to be agreement that global warming is real and relevant and man made"

I half agree with you - the "man made" bit is the main bone of contention

We can talk about pollution and agree that that is primarily a man made disaster waiting to happen (or happening in some cases) but we cannot confuse pollution with AGW. Just because the media show you power station steam stacks with steam bellowing out of them - doesn't mean its pollution - it's steam - same stuff clouds are made from.

    As Groucho Marx once said:
"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies"

As mentioned to you before - the minute increase in CO2 in the atmosphere is helping to green out planet which is a self regulatory way for nature to look after it self. More green = more absorption of Co2 - ironic isn't it but that is also one of the reasons that we have had constant climatic cycles on this rock of ours. Destroy the CO2 balance and you end up with more Sahara and Simpson deserts around the world

Converting to electric cars is a band aid approach to our transport needs - albeit a very expensive one and one that will probably have a very short shelf life IMO - as China controls a very large percentage of the rare earth production that is essential to the production of the batteries needed for propulsion.

I'm not saying that ICE engines are the perfect solution - but in my circumstances they are far better than EVs.

I'd love to be able to open up some of the secret cup boards that the major oil companies have where they keep all the great inventions and patents they bought and took off the market so that they not would reduce the need for oil products.
