Only cause he earnt and it didn't come from crime or other sourcesAt some point to flush cash money out of the economy the gov will recall old note styles ( reissue new ones) and may do it like in India ( recalled / cancelled 500 and 1000 rupee ) and UK where each person could only cash XX amount and within a certain time and had to be via bank deposit as they couldn't be accepted by business and had to be a UK bank customer .
In Australia the number of 100 buck notes in circulation that don't get circulated - Yep banks are asked at various times to stop counterfeiting to return every note received and only issue fresh etc .They use nice terminology so people think it is to only keep fresh looking notes out there not worn ones etc. The number for $50 is outrageous indicating that of the ones issued and in circulation ( actual daily use) is like a very small % and has been noticed by ATO , fed police etc At some point it will happen and pensioner will be affected unlike drug dealers etc who will have gold , gems , other currency, or contacts are in business and can flush money through. Get him to gradually use money he gets from pension to " bury" and spend other notes he digs up so over time he has fresher notes of newer designs and can " show" where his stash came from..
Oh well My 2 bobs worth as just like in Indian demonetisation it never really affects the correct people when the gov gets a bright idea.
Need to store value and not be a theft target of people or governments. I hope if he needs it the bloke can be shown that if he doesn't want to leave money to kids etc that someone could bundle it into portions ( his expected life eg) so he could have some pleasure in gradually spending some or doing something he thinks is worthwhile knowing he won't run out.

I also know several people lacking some "life" skills via disability or just their education level ( like can read but not write or another who is innumerate) that I help to ensure no one takes advantage as had happened in past. People would be surprised at just how many people bluff their way through life and rely on honesty of others and get a feel for if they are being screwed.
Knew a old bloke in a industry who was considered thick as -illiterate and innumerate who's boring job was to set out and cut items after tracing them around templates depending on what was ordered - his memory of possible combinations was unbelievable. . He saved that company about 20% wastage compared to other employees by ignoring expertly computerised set out templates supplied . Eventually they introduced automated cad machines and for years he beat them and expensive production planning software as he was programmed better. Bloody amazing as he could only tell you if he had one more piece if you asked him as a yes or no If you wanted 2 you would ask him twice as his number world seemingly worked in 1 unit blocks but all separate - they didn't accumulate to a higher number in his brain. I know the owners treated him like a son making sure he was looked after in other aspects of his life.
As a young bloke apparently his father was a removalist and he could walk around any area and instantly visualise most efficient manner for load and unload so his brian could do it in 3D, They followed him around with numbered raffle tickets and as he pointed areas in correct order to be hey taped to em in what looked like a random order. Company chrissy party he could stack eskys with more cans , bottles in em all with ice around em and in a order that people would want em. Some people just have the knack of visual and spacial things or are wired differently..
