I have never agreed with the gun law legislation that Abbot produced as it did not do anything for the gun crime in the country.
All it did was to take guns from the people, did nothing to stop the importation or the ability for criminals to get weapons of almost any sort.
I believe it was a convenient circunmstance which then allowed him to comply with the UN agreement to remove guns from the Australian citizens and had little to do with the cause of the shootings at Pt Arthur
As to social media in general, they have it in their power to control the content but CHOOSE not to so as to make more profit
We have all seen on HC it is possible to monitor the content and remove it quickly if required.
It was not so long ago that facebook said that there was no way to remove content ever !
If you try and DYOR on the democratic politicians in the USA you will see that it is constantly sanatised
