By Daniel Bishton on 16 January, 2018 When Perth’s newest landmark officially opens on January 21, it will boast capacity for 60,000 people, making it the third-largest stadium in Australia.
After a feverish development phase, Optus Stadium will be open for business, catering primarily for Australian rules football and cricket.
Aussie aerial imagery company, Nearmap, has released high-res images giving us the first glimpse of what the new stadium will look like — and a retrospective view of the construction progress not seen from the ground.
“We’ve seen an amazing transformation from Perth’s built landscape over the last few years, especially when viewed from the air,” said Rob Newman, CEO at Nearmap, “A key example of the impressive growth taking place in Perth is the multi-billion-dollar-development of Optus Stadium,” he said.
“These images show how the landscape of former Burswood Park golf course was radically changed, with the pond removed and green spaces created to make way for the third-largest stadium in Australia.”
