if the person is still able and active you can buy mobile phones with a alert button built in. Hold down specifically big red button for 5 seconds . That way no matter where they are they can access it ( assuming they have phone on them.) like in car if they are having a issue. It dials up to 5 people either simultaneously or in series and transmits text GPS positioning so you know if they are at home or wherever and opens sets phone to speaker so you can tell them you are on way and if they are able to they can talk back. Can act as a tracker as well as you can send message or log in and it will show where they are on map - good for wanderers. Not going to happen in shower but some can blutooth a phone with a waterproof neck / wrist fob.etc For showers there are pull cord system and same for bed but some of these are now . Just depends on capabilities you need and if it is only for a housebound person or someone active.
Having other contacts listed can quickly give emergency workers access to correct medical details and different countries may suggest for elderly to have a summary on inside of front door or where daily pills are kept for emergency staff to easily access and notice. Keeping a copy electronically with key medical contacts can allow you to quickly forward them to relevant services on site or to hospital so more detailed specialist records can be retrieved.
Each person will have different needs and you need to check quality of equipment is suitable.
an overview. Also need to assess the persons compliance with battery charging if t is a phone and regularly testing fobs , pull cords , self test if not under a service contract where they do that. No use having it if it won't work when you need it etc.No use if person isn't compliant with carrying or using it. Can set geo fences in some for wanterers etc.

With very secure houses it is also worthwhile having a alarmed keysafe somewhere so if required you can have the ambulance workers / police /; fire access the property without having to smash their way in if person can't get to door and you are not local. You may already have access to part functionality via house alarm and just need a extra module and also it can be set to use a different siren sound so neighbours are aware and flashing strobe helps emergency worker quickly get to right property. . They have modules for pull cords, GSM dialers and incorporate fire and window break etc.
There can be advantages with monitored systems but also costs but a bit of research you can have a system without the costs depending on circumstances
google GSM medical alerts
google NHS medic alerts - suggested as UK has pretty good aged care database and knowledge and NHS supplies many devices of good quality to get through tenders. Same are available privately gsm , landline based etc.
Not going to suggest a specific product for obvious reasons but would like to hear what you find or are advised to get.
State based seniors, aged departments , disability departments may even offer rebates and have lists of authorised suppliers
St Johns ambulance may have some advice
Choice has previously done reviews I think.
