2019 is touted by many analysts as the year of copper M and A.
The part article below taken from Mining.com attests to the growing global shortage.
Only more specialized and sophisticated investors have a grasp of the evolving copper story. Once the day traders and punters arrive I think we will see a big pop in junior copper miners like the early days of the Cobalt and Lithium boom where 10-20 baggers were rife.
The Solg poker game is fascinating as major players hide their cards and new players circle the poker table to join in. Cornerstone is in play and Warren Irwins outburst against NM reflects his frustration with backing the wrong horse. Solg is where the big money is. They have 72 concessions with a total of untested blue sky target value of 10-50Bill plus Cascabel.
Solg reached 38.5p last night but is always held back near the close. Closed at 38p.
DGR is the best exposure to SOLG and it too has been pushed down on most closes. A lot of buyers have exposed themselves but are not willing to breach 0.14. Sophisticated accumulation is going on. JP Morgan have doubled their nominee holding in the past year to become the forth biggest holder in DGR. BNP Paribas has just joined the top 10 of DGR with 7.7 mill shares. Both these companies will make a lot of money for clients. Morgans are also in print valuing Solg at 80p.
Thus DGR 204mill SOLG *80p* 1.85 = AUD 302mill in our treasury. I lived through a large treasury enrichment with GIR as a top 20 shareholder. It moved the price from 0.05 to 0.80.
Chilean miner Antofagasta Plc. (LON: ANTO) expects the anticipated global copper deficit to hit between 100,000 and 300,000 tonnes this year as consumption growth remains positive, but production increases are minimal.Releasing the company’s annual results, chief executive Iván Arriagada also revealed that the first phase of a planned expansion at its flagship Los Pelambres copper mine had been approved, as widely anticipated.
Construction has begun and first production is expected around mid-2021, with capex forecast to be $1.3 billion, which includes $500 million for a 400-litre per second desalination plant and water pipeline that will supply the water requirements of the expansion and, potentially, future ones, Antofagasta said.
