Long term investment is not the same as patriotic investment. Foreign ownership of Aussie companies is a double-edged sword. Selling Santos makes a lot people upset. There are also cases when people are happy to sell. Not long ago SMS shareholders were happy to accept a takeover bid from a Japanese firm, rejecting a lower offer from DWS, an Australian company.
Long term investment is not the same as patriotic investment....
