The reason is very simple; the RC boarding schools were restricted to either boys or girls and, as the old saying goes 'And never the twain shall meet'. I certainly never saw any girls in the boarding schools that I attended. But that didn't stop some boarders from dreaming about them (and no, I can't remember how many), and no doubt the same can be said about the priests and brothers who taught me (and no, I never asked them!).
