Company’s financials seen lifted after marginal oilfield starts production
WITH its Ophir marginal oilfield expected to see maiden production of crude oil by June, Scomi Energy Services Bhd is expected to receive a boost to its financial standing.
Sources tell StarBizWeek that the Ophir marginal oilfield, which was developed by Ophir Production Sdn Bhd, a tri-partite consortium, is expected to start commercial production of crude oil in five months.
“On average, approximately eight million barrels of crude oil is forecast to be produced per annum through the Ophir field.
“As for the cost of production, it is believed to hover around US$40 per barrel or lower,” says the source.
Assuming an average oil price of US$50 per barrel, the marginal oilfield’s production can easily hit an annual revenue of US$400mil, according to the source.
