It would be great to know to what degree the selling was increased by index funds having to adjust their holdings. Would the fall have been as great without their existence? Then again the price probably rose as high as it did with the help of their buying. Jack Bogle ( Vanguards founder ) himself admitted that they increased momentum in the market. Will we see the actively managed funds enter and balance things out in the next couple of days as he said would happen.
I am a long term holder of RMD and found nothing in the results to change my solid belief in the company. I scratch my head, though, as to why a consensus of 22 US brokers was considerably out in their eps. given the lack of any surprise issues.
