Apart from spearings, the biggest cause of death was appendicitus.Weeks on horseback to medical care, they died from peritonotis, painfully. And they were tough men.
No, wont accept that appendicitis doesnt need immediate treatment. Peritonotis sets in, you're dead.
Remember a guy in Antarctica late 1950's who took his own appendix out via instructions through radio. Imagine that.
