Oh well, "prof", you had me excited there for a minute! In regards to Digene and cervical cancer/HPV: we already have an OK screening program through Pap smears and there is a lot of therapeutic inertia in adopting a new test when there's an old one that does a pretty good job. Ca 125 alone is pretty rotten as a screening tool so it is largely ignored. I would argue the potential market is far larger than the current market for Ca 125 which is not really used very often. The market for a simple blood test especially in the "worried well" is pretty big, even without government funding. "Hey Doc, can you do a blood test for everything? Can you test me for cancer? Why do I have to have a Pap smear/rectal exam/mammogram/poo sample; isn't there a blood test?" You wouldn't believe how many requests for prostate cancer screening blood tests I got after Sam Newman got it. What would happen if a celebrity got ovarian cancer? Remember, this test is for sale, right now.
