I guess it depends if you are happy to take a whacking hit as soon as the record date passes? Or whether you think that the drop which will occur will be less than the price the option start trading at.
I think it may be cheaper to buy afterwards, however I have decided against this option as from memory the strike date is only like a year so too big a chance they will be worthless at that time.
