From last year's accounts, they actually paid in Dividend $5.2B, which is equivalent to the amount of the special dividend. So, depending on the number of shares bought back and cancelled, you should expect a dividend just north of US$1.
The next 3 months will be rewarding for BHP holders.
$1 special dividend in January, and then the half year dividend (how much?) in March.
