US imports of SiMn increase almost 23% in 2018
The US imported 139,792 mt of silicomanganese in the first four months of 2018 and 46,179 mt in April alone vs. 108,191 mt and 38,671 mt, respectively, in the same 2017 periods—not a bad increase.
The major suppliers in the first four months of 2018 (same 2017 period in parentheses) were: Georgia, 41,540 mt (25,598 mt); Australia, 29,498 mt (20,397 mt); South Africa, 28,947 mt (20,846 mt); Mexico, 10,192 mt (14,683 mt); and Norway, 9,814 mt (7,829 mt).
The major suppliers in April 2018 were: Georgia, 12,728 mt; South Africa, 12,047 mt; Mexico, 5,245 mt; and Norway, 4,760 mt. And, in April, 3,000 came in from Russia and 3,000 mt from Malaysia, the first imports so far in 2018. U
