The tax argument that "we can't afford to change because of the loss of tax revenue"
is not a long term sustainable argument. For example, the same could be said
of payroll tax which inhibits employment.

Governments have to look at the long term picture and, IMO, growing oil imports
is a serious economic problem as well as being a serious security problem.
We simply cannot afford to swap our entire coal resources for oil imports
(we import $38.5 billion of oil annually which negates our entire export
    revenue from coal)

I for one am willing to pay an extra 10c/litre for petrol if this money is set
aside to encourage local oil exploration with the aim of being oil self-sufficient
    by say 2025.

We now need something better than hip pocket economics whether that be
    individual or Government.

Political parties won't change the status quo unless we demand them
to do so. We have stupid churning of legislation to mostly benefit
big business who are the sponsors of this Government.

Is this Government increasing business tax? No they are not.
In fact they are reducing it. (Two thirds of tax revenue is paid by individuals)
And what big programs has this government got?
Infrastructure spending to benefit big business who are paying less and less
    tax.

And how have we objected to the political status quo?
We have given big business (AKA PUP) the balance of power.
As basil Faulty would say in exasperation..BLOODY GREAT!!!

I guess we have the best Government that big business can buy
because as taxpayers we are too stingy to pay up.
