    It is interesting to note that posters here do not consider Australia's increasing reliance on imported oil, petrol and
    diesel at least not a major security issue if not a serious economic one.
    Right wing apologists spruik more warships, more warplanes and more submarines to protect ourselves against
    foreign aggression but surely oil self-sufficiency comes before the hardware of war. If there is an emergency
    then surely inward shipping is going to be the first casualty and, unlike the USA, we do not have the crude oil reserves
    on tap to cater to such an emergency.

    We supported the Auto Manufacturing industry for decades and billions of taxpayers dollars on a 1950's remise
    that we needed to be self sufficient in vehicle and spare parts manufacturing n case of another world war.

    It now seems that the cut off of oil supplies due to war is a much bigger and immediate threat.
