    Hi raiderup,

Last year we imported $38.456 billion of crude oil, petrol & diesel
    That's $38,456,000,000 or $105,358,900 a day.

This amount is increasing by about 7% p/a so whatever we are doing in the Cooper
Basin, the Canning Basin or Bass Strait is simply not enough.
This importation of oil completely negates our entire exports of coal
    (both thermal and coking).

This is why oil self-sufficiency is both a major economic and national security issue
and has very little do do about being a 'Greenie, IMO.

I know that many who drive around in the V8 Holden or Falcon Ute see themselves as being
patriotically Australian but when one considers the negative trade impact
that these massive oil import figures have on the Australian economy, the opposite could be
    said to be true.
