Unfortunately I'm holding a large capital loss.
My question is, I'd like to offset this loss with future capital gains so do I need to sell any profitable shares within 12 months to realize a capital gain (and therefore to offset the capital loss), or can I hold shares for any length of time (eg:years) and still offset my capital loss?
Will holding for 12mths change my "capital gain" to "income" and therefore I wont be able to offset my capital loss?
Also, can I offset small capital gains against a large capital loss and carry the remaining capital loss forward?
Hope that makes sense. Thanks.
