This is the problem, people don't look at the history - they pick and choose. Each time the message has been simple its based on "Jihad" and if you don't convert then you die (You have 3 choices - convert, pay tribute or die). Everyone says it was the crusades that were the issue but the crusades were not the start…they forget that 400+ years before the Christian world (post roman empire) was violently seized after many wars and North Africa was really a Christian area (they spoke Greek even). Most people don't even know that places like Egypt for example were not Muslim based and were concurred and converted to Islam from these wars pre the Crusades. Spain was even taken over and they tried to move into Europe via France by force (rape, killings, burning of churches etc - total Jihad). It took to the 1400s before Spain was retaken and the true history of these wars over 700 years are ignored.
