The reality is that batteries don't have the energy density to store sufficient energy for household needs. Besides dams, energy density is only achieved in chemical bonds eg. hydrocarbons. This makes hydrogen one of the few viable storage options but more work needs to be done. If batteries were really viable then South Australia and Germany, two big examples of green energy, would give up there interconnectors. There are examples around the world of states with reliable nuclear power but none with reliable renewables backed up by batteries.
