I hear what you are saying, but a sizable royalty to a landowner is money straight out of your pocket as a shareholder. In my business, we do not pay royalties, but we do pay compensation when we are active i.e. drilling and seismic, as we utilize part of the property which obviously cannot be used for its original intended purpose for the duration.

I haven't worked in NT on this for a while, but given my other experience with NT, I'm certain that there are payments made to CLC as exploration and development plans are progressed.

In terms of access, the industry cannot force easy access and most don't try. A lot of farmers say no but when they hear how much their neighbor gets, they change their tune. Sometimes very quickly, and sometimes too late.
