"why would I become familiar with each industry is beyond me"

Joe, you dont need to become familiar with each award, however there are 3 payment time frames, weekly 2 weekly and monthly and there are standards regarding how each of these pay periods needs to be paid, you dont need to be a HR person, but as am employer i certainly made it my business to know!!

"In my industry very often for reasons of security if the person is senior the notice period is waived or the employee wants to shorten the period."

Yes, and that is usually mutually agreed upon termination or notice of discontinuing employment.

"How do I benefit by paying in advance for two weeks"

You are seriously asking this question?? The benefit is by paying monthly!! As you are a business man i will let you figure out why it is a benefit to pay monthly!!

" If you want to whinge then thats your right but reality is that is everyone's choice."

lol I am not whinging as you so politely put it Joe as i have nothing to whinge about, I am stating the facts from someone I know who works within Hills

"Really labour is free to go and work anywhere and I am free to run my business for its stakeholders benefit which includes staff but I would not open a business within an industry that had such an award. Nor is it my obligation to run my business for the benefit of my staff."

Once again you are just missing the whole point!! But you are really starting to sound like a dictating employer! Most awards offer options for time frame payments Joe, for example AWARD X may be paid weekly or fortnightly, the award DOESNT compel you to pay people monthly, you generally have options!!!

Do you have any sales staff or clerical staff ?? Most businesses do have.
Well these awards are professional awards where you have an option of paying weekly 2weekly or monthly!!!!!! SO you should be up to speed??

"So you are stating that this company is in fact acting outside of the law and committing an unfair labour practice - I say dream on. If you think that that would not have been jumped on ages ago and stopped and even published by now I cannot believe that. You only have to make one phone call and 5 days later the company would be having to answer questions and lawsuits etc."

You also dont understand employment law Joe, that is such a naive statement

"So I challenge you call the authorities and unions and let them investigate , but until I get evidence I wont believe it."

What are they going to do Joe??? Really?? It is up to each employee Joe, and for the average employee they cant afford legal support and the company would know this

"Now to a possibility if the company can choose to pay fortnightly instead of monthly and avoid the prepayment then I would say well done I think that is a better practice."

You still havent answered the important questions Joe, if you as an employer sign up jenny smith you give her a letter of offer which she signs.. Yeah??

In that letter you say you are going to pay them weekly, then 6 months later you change your mind and decide you are going to pay them 2weekly because you want to. And you are going to pay them 4 weeks in arrears.
Should you consult your employee Joe or should you just do it because you are the employer?

Are you an employer of your word Joe or are you going to be an employer that your employees dont trust and dont wish to work for??

And by making the change Joe it means you wouldnt pay the employee their full entitlements, because you have gone and changed their terms. Would that be accepted by your employees Joe if you did that??

This is exactly why there are industrial laws to protect BOTH parties Joe>

You believe what you want, I have been shown what was done.
If staff continue to leave this company in droves and move to competitors it will make it even harder to reach its targets!!

    Cheers
